Goondir Health Services is a Community Controlled health organisation providing health services to the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of the Eastern Section of Goolburri ATSIC Region.

Goondir - is from a local language group and translates to Medicine Man.

Goondir Health Services is a member of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS). ACCHS represents the health interests of Aboriginal communities at the state level, which is in turn a member of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (NACCHO). NACCHO provides the link between ACCHS and the Commonwealth Government and is the national peak Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health body. It represents the health interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities at the national level.

Goondir Health Services was incorporated on 19th April 1994. The organisation’s initial funding was provided by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (ATSIC). Currently funding for Goondir Health Services is through the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing, Office for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (OATSIH).

The aim of Goondir Health Services is to provide holistic, primary health care and medical services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within our service provision area.

The objectives of Goondir Health Services are to improve the health status and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people by providing appropriate Primary Health Care, Health Promotion and Education, and to enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to determine for themselves, improved health outcomes, as enjoyed by all Australians.

Goondir Health Services has a commitment to provide extensive services to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, as their health and well-being is its number one priority.

Goondir Health Service provision area

The organisation’s service provision area, approximately 240,000 Kms² extends from Warwick in the south east, west to Goondiwindi and St George, north to Yuleba, and then east to Kingaroy.

The administration of the service is directed by the Goondir Health Services, Board of Management. The Board members are elected from the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
